Phoenix Gem Lab (PGL) offers professional Gemological Lab, Jewelry Appraisal, Jewelry Consulting and Jewelry Brokering services in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Whether you have jade, gemstones, diamond, fine jewelry, vintage or antique timepieces, pearls and precious metals, all your identification & valuation needs can be handled expertly and accurately at Phoenix Gem Lab.
At Phoenix Gem Lab, your jewelry will be inspected and evaluated in a secure setting. There is no need for you to leave your jewelry during the process.
For appraising service, we’ll perform market research and analysis on your jewelry after the examination, and you'll receive a detailed report within a reasonable time frame, typically within a week, depending on the complexity of the assignment and our current workload. Your appraisal report will be conducted in accordance with USPAP and ASA standards.

Ms. Luo is your reliable gemologist and independent jewelry appraiser in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, specializing in the identification & appraising of Fei Cui (翡翠, including jadeite jade, Omphacite jade, Kosmochlor jade), gemstones, diamonds, and fine jewelry. With credentials as a GIA Graduate Gemologist and an AGA Accredited Senior Gemologist, she is also the Education Committee and Candidate Member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) in the Gems & Jewelry Discipline. Her expertise and dedication were recognized when she received the 2024 ASA Rising Star Award.
Ms. Luo had been a researcher and instructor in Gemological Institute, China University of Geoscience, Wuhan (CUG) for around 7 years. Her research focused on the origin study of modern and ancient jade. She was invited to give an oral presentation on 2018 GIA International Symposium, Carlsbad, about how to use trace elements data and machine learning tools to classify green jade. Her research result about “Origin Determination of Dolomite-Related White Nephrite through Iterative-Binary Linear Discriminant Analysis”, was published on Gem & Gemology, Fall, 2015.
Zemin Luo's appraisal reports are widely accepted by insurance companies, and she is a Qualified Appraiser under IRS Guidelines. Her clients include private jewelry owners, insurance companies, fiduciaries, estate attorneys, and retailers.
